Leonberger Connection made in French Lick

Mark Greene and I never met in person until today in French Lick, Indiana.  The first thing he did was show me a picture of his dog.  I think FaceBook was the trigger.  Right, Mark?  That was a special moment.  This is not just any dog.  It’s a rare dog and Mark has had three of these dogs like me.

I love all dogs BUT this dog, the Leonberger, is the Lion of all dogs–majestic, regal, noble and loyal. I’ve climbed and backpacked with all three of my Leo’s.  These are pictures of Kiai.  I met this boy when he was 4 weeks old.  He’s almost 10 now.  Ami (left) and Budoc (right) are gone but not before teaching me a serious lesson about life being better in a pack.

Mark, Kiai has vouched for you so you’re in the pack.  BTW, Kiai is the VP of Chill at LexBlog. He goes to the office with me almost every day.  He’s also an “A-list” therapy dog for some of Desiree’s dog-loving acupuncture patients.  He’d like to be a running back for the Seattle Seahawks.  He doesn’t like NFL referees because of Bill Leavy.  See photo below.

To learn more about the breed from the Leonberger Club of America click here.  I rescued my first Leonberger, Ami.  Desire to learn more?  Go to Leonberger Rescue, Inc.  This all-volunteer organization is “…dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of unwanted, abandoned or abused Leonbergers.”

From that same site, “If you own or know of a Leonberger that needs a new home because it is no longer a welcome member of its home or being held by a shelter, contact your Regional Representative. If the dog is a Leonberger, […they’ll…] take responsibility for him and find a suitable home.”

Thanks for all you do, Leonberger Rescue and Frank Higgins (a fellow rescuer).
